Five Forks School ended term three with a bang.

The Waitaki school welcomed four-time women's motocross world champion Courtney Duncan for a visit on Thursday.

It was a long time coming, the 28-year-old said.

"They’ve been contacting me for so long and it’s never really aligned so I’m stoked that I got to be here.

"It was an a amazing turnout and the kids are so passionate and really welcoming."

Despite not having a direct affiliation with the school, it reminded her of home.

"It definitely reminds me of growing up in Palmerston.

"A real community, rural feel about it [and] there’s a lot of kids that have bikes and with the trail ride being here in the neighbourhood."

It was important for Duncan to visit smaller schools such as Five Forks as they tend to miss out seeing professional athletes.

"That’s how Palmerston was as well so you don’t have a whole lot of sports athletes and stars come out to the school so for me to be able to give back is pretty important like that, especially with these types of schools."

It finished off a busy school term for Five Forks as it also hosted former pupil and Olympic canoeing gold medallist Olivia Brett earlier this month.
