Oamaru police are seeking a car and its three occupants after a short, high-speed pursuit in the town yesterday.
Police saw the male driver of a 1991 dark-blue Honda Integra, registration number EPZ85, carry out a wheel spin in Reed St, central Oamaru, about 4.15pm, Sergeant Wayne Brew said last night.
The driver was signalled to stop but the vehicle took off, travelling through the forecourt of the Thames Highway BP service station at high speed, before heading up Ardgowan Rd and into Eden St.
Sgt Brew estimated the car reached speeds of 100kmh in the built-up area and 140kmh in the 100kmh zone.
The driver's decision to drive through the service station forecourt was "lunacy".
The pursuit was called off about 4.25pm because of the high speed, he said.
The car is registered to an Oamaru woman who police believed was a passenger.
Neither she nor the car had returned home.
"We are seeking any sightings of her or her car, and urge her to turn herself in."
