Copper thefts are continuing in North Otago, despite a raid last week on a Kakanui property by six police that resulted in the arrest of two men.
Police had been warning people about copper thefts for about a month.
The thefts were linked to high metal prices overseas.
Yesterday, Oamaru police reported that copper stored in the interior of a car was stolen from a Tutu Hill Rd address on Monday night.
Three copper cylinders were stolen from a Tamar St, Oamaru, address in the past three weeks when the occupants were away on holiday.
In the Kakanui raid on June 10, police recovered a trailer-load of copper cylinders and other copper which had been taken from North Otago properties.
Police are appealing for two witnesses who may have seen a man driving at speeds of up to 89kmh in the 50kmh zone in Severn, Wansbeck, Lune and Till Sts area about 7pm on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old driver, who tried to evade police by switching off his car's lights, has been charged with dangerous driving.
