The fire, at a McNally Rd property in Corriedale, threatened a row of pine trees.
It was thought to have been extinguished but reignited yesterday morning.
The Weston Volunteer Fire Brigade was called about 8.15am after it was reported a controlled rubbish burn, previously been put out by the person who lit it, had reignited and started to spread to a thick, 50m long stretch of trees.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said a crew from the Waitaki Voluntary Rural Fire Force, which arrived shortly after the Weston crew, remained at the scene for several hours in an effort to dampen down the area, and was being supported by crews from the Kakanui Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Wakari Voluntary Rural Fire Force from Dunedin.
At least three tankers were at the scene at 5pm yesterday, and a digger was on site to assist.
