Clubs' chance to show off

North Otago groups, clubs and organisations get a chance to strut their stuff at the Oamaru Opera House in March during a "club day".

The inaugural event was held last year shortly after the redeveloped and restored opera house was opened, more than 70 organisations taking advantage of the opportunity to show the community what they did and attract new membership.

Opera house sales and marketing manager Stu Dalton said yesterday the event was so popular there had been constant inquiries about when another would be held.

As a result, the "community group showcase day" was being repeated this year on March 6 and registrations were being sought.

Mr Dalton said the whole building from the basement and dressing rooms to the Empire Room on the top floor, including the foyers and auditorium, would be utilised to host groups.

Some would be using the auditorium's stage to show what they had to offer, including operatic and dance groups.

He expected a similarly diverse range of groups as last year to participate, ranging from sports, crafts, youth and performance organisations, through to health and welfare groups.

There was no cost to take part and entry forms had already been sent to community organisations.

Those who had not received them could get forms from the Oamaru Opera House or from the opera house website.
