The Kurow Medical Centre is to be bought by the couple who left their positions at the Twizel Medical Centre following an employment dispute last year.

Tim and Juliet Gardner have confirmed they are in the final stages of  buying the Kurow business.

Last year, Dr Gardner’s contract was terminated with the Twizel Medical Centre following a dispute.

He and his wife then took up positions at Kurow: Mrs Gardner became  practice manager and her husband was the  second GP at the Kurow medical practice.

The Kurow centre’s board accepted the Gardners’ offer  to buy and details will be discussed at the Waitaki Valley Medical Trust’s annual  meeting on September 5 in the Kurow Memorial Hall.

Mrs Gardner said details of the deal  were expected to be finalised in October.

"We were hoping earlier, but there’s a lot that will be sorted out."

The other Kurow centre doctor, Annie Fyfe, would stay on, Mrs Gardner said.

"It just gives patients assurance that they have GPs that want to stick around."
