For years, people have parked vehicles they wish to sell privately, including cars, boats and caravans, at the end of a sealed driveway by the Awamoa scout group den.
Over that time there have been numerous reports of vehicles there being tampered with, damaged, having fuel siphoned from them and sometimes stolen.
Last week, Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Oamaru, told the Otago Daily Times police had discussed the issue of CCTV with the Waitaki District Council in the past and remained open to the idea, if both parties agreed it was necessary.
Mr Kircher said it was a possibility, given the number of incidents still being reported.
''It has continued to be one of the trouble spots for petty crime, but the number of ongoing incidents has made it more of a priority.''
Funding, a suitable location and ''possibly, consents'' would have to be approved if any installation was to go ahead, he said.
It would also need to be agreed that the site was the ''next priority''.
''With other priority [areas] sorted now covered by cameras, it would be good to get coverage in this area too.''
The most recent instance of vandalism was over the weekend of May 11 and 12, when several vehicles were targeted.
One vehicle had its rear tail light smashed and a rear panel damaged.
A stereo was stolen from another after a lock was forced.
Seventeen vehicles were parked for sale yesterday.
In early 2016, CCTV cameras went live at the corner of Itchen and Humber Sts, Harbour St, the North Otago Yacht and Powerboat Club in Waterfront Rd, the intersection of Severn and Thames Sts, the Junction at Wansbeck St and Awamoa Rd and the North End shopping area, as part of a $30,000 project that involved the Safer Community Council, the Waitaki District Council, businesses, police and volunteers.
