Additional IT roles needed, council told

Three new full-time IT positions would help to lift the Waitaki District Council's digital game to a sustainable level, council information services group manager Bill Chou says.

Arguing for an endorsement from the council's finance, audit and risk committee for three additional two-year fixed term staff this week, Mr Chou likened the council's current IT position to trying to get the most out of a farm with out-of-date equipment.

The three positions would be funded from the department's projects budget and the added staff would help to complete projects that would allow the council to run more ''efficiently and effectively''.

One role required was an integration specialist, who would help to knit together the ''numerous information systems'' the council had acquired over the years.

A business analyst and project manager would allow the IT department to work on projects in parallel rather than one after another, as was now the case.

''The information services group programme of work contains many new essential projects that will greatly enhance council's efficiency and capability in the digital world,'' Mr Chou's report to the committee stated
