A new early child-care programme is scheduled to start soon at the Palmerston Playcentre.
The Space (Supporting Parents Alongside Children's Education) programme is designed for first-time parents with newborn babies.
The Space sessions are scheduled to be held every Thursday morning from October 16.
The programme will provide child care and education for up to 15 babies aged up to six months, facilitator Christine Rainbow, of Warrington, said. Palmerston Playcentre spokeswoman Fran Sheat said Palmerston was a good base for the programme because of the large number of young babies in the area.
The Space programme would also be offered at a playcentre in Oamaru and at the St Leonard's and Mornington playcentres in Dunedin.
