A "cracker" Central Otago A&P Show, held at Omakau on Saturday, was declared a success by organisers with a larger turnout than in previous years.

Show committee president Geoff Clouston said there were ''way more people this year ... significantly more. The show was just a cracker''.

''Never have I seen so many children at the show before.''

At its height, he estimated the crowd to be about 2500 strong and said there were many more trade exhibits, food and market stalls and entrants in the sheep, fleece and horse events than in other years too. He put that down to the ''enthusiastic committee'' and extra entertainment, particularly for the children.

The Pinot Paddock, an area for adults to enjoy a drink while watching entertainment, ''was a real hit''.

As well as the traditional home industries and photography competitions, pet parade, Jack Russell race, shearing competitions and the monster water slide, there was entertainment from former New Zealand's Got Talent competitors Hit Men Percussion and a cooking demonstration from 2012 New Zealand Masterchef competitor Tracy Paterson, of Omakau. The day was capped off by a twilight performance from Maggie Ruddenklau, of Wanaka.
