A man in a wheelchair is one of the two suspects sought after a police pursuit in Central Otago a week ago, involving a driver who fled at 140kmh, swerving past road spikes.
Police released these photos yesterday of the two male occupants of the blue Honda Civic vehicle, in the hope of identifying the people.
The pursuit took place between the Lindis Pass and Alexandra and police spent several hours unsuccessfully searching for the car and its occupants after the vehicle was seen heading into into scrubby terrain near the base of Alexandra's clock on the hill.
Sergeant Matt Alley, of Alexandra, said the photos of the suspects had been provided by a member of the public and were taken soon after the pursuit ended, near where the Honda was found.
It was located on Tuesday in a residential area of the town.
He said police did not know who the driver was but the Honda was a ''standard'' vehicle and had not been modified for a disabled driver.
''We're hoping people will contact us with further sightings of these two men - they're pretty distinctive given one is in a wheelchair - or maybe know their identities,'' he said.
The vehicle has been ''forensically examined'' and the results are expected to shed more light on the matter.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Alexandra police.
