There has been a public outcry over the drowning of a puppy which was apparently tied to a rock and thrown off the Alexandra Bridge.
"We've had lots of comments about it and people are as horrified by what happened to this little guy as we are, '' SPCA Otago executive officer Sophie McSkimming said yesterday.
The 12-week-old purebred huntaway male puppy was found in the Clutha River by a young fisherman on Thursday.
Its lead was tied around a schist rock.
"We appreciate the support from the public and there's been such an outcry, let's hope that helps us catch the person responsible,'' Ms McSkimming said.
She was still seeking information from the public.
A postmortem will be carried out on the puppy this weekend.
