Registrations are open for a free programme on offer to Southern Lakes community groups, aiming to strengthening leaders in governance roles.

The Leadership in Governance Mentoring Programme is designed to increase effectiveness in community governance by developing capability, connection and confidence among participants.

It is to be delivered by huddl, a new initiative working to support community groups and networks in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

The programme matches a mentee with a mentor with strong not-for-profit governance experience and relevant skills.

All mentees and mentors will be supported by the programme co-ordinator Fiona Reeve, from huddl, who will be leading the programme.

The programme had run successfully in 2022 and 2023, Ms Reeve said.

"Volunteer South have done an amazing job of delivering the The Governance Mentoring Programme for the last two years and I’m looking forward to continuing to support mentors and mentees in their governance journey with this year’s cohort."

"The programme offers a valuable opportunity for mentees and mentors to access a proven mentoring model that provides ongoing support and advice to help leaders in their personal development."

It was a good way to foster connections with other leaders in the community, she said.

The programme is starting in August and will run through until April 2025.

Registrations are now open for individuals from Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes who would like to be mentees or mentors.

These registrations will close on Wednesday, July 24 and applicants will then be shortlisted and interviewed, with the final cohort to be confirmed for an orientation at the end of August.
