Bikes rather than trains could soon be parked at the Clyde Railway Station.
Carol and Steve Goodlass, of Shebikeshebikes Ltd, have applied to the Central Otago District Council for consent to establish and operate a cycle hire, art gallery and retail business from the category 2 107-year-old building.
The Vincent Community Board agreed in March to lease part of the recently refurbished building to the couple, subject to them gaining consent.
Shebikeshebikes would operate in about half of the enclosed part of the building.
The remainder would be used as a museum.
As well as providing hire customers with bikes, the business would sell cycle tourism products, and a gallery area would be set aside to display artwork, the couple said in their application.
It was a family-owned business which had been operating as a rail trail cycle tourism provider for the past five years.
Increased traffic and an increase in noise at the site were among the negative effects. Heritage New Zealand has given its approval.
