One-off screening for Pink Floyd fans

Pink Floyd fans in Central Otago will get the chance to unite for a worldwide screening of a documentary made by Roger Waters, in Alexandra at the end of the month.

A one-off screening of Roger Waters The Wall, featuring concert and personal footage, will take place at 8pm, September 29, at Central Cinema.

Other venues around New Zealand will screen it at the same time.

Waters is the co-founder of the internationally acclaimed English rock band Pink Floyd, known for its progressive and psychedelic music.

The film was first debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.

Central Cinema film committee member Loretta Bush said it had organised a showing for Alexandra after first hearing about it from a resident.

''They wanted to go see it in Arrowtown, but it was sold out.''

The documentary includes material from Mr Water's three-year solo tour, a show based on the Pink Floyd album, The Wall, as well as behind the scenes footage.

It includes footage of Waters visiting the World War I battle sites in France and Italy, and the spot where his father died in World War 2.

It also includes a segment with Waters and Pink Floyd band mate Nick Mason answering questions sent in by fans from around the world.

About 15 tickets had been sold at Central Cinema, with 25 tickets remaining for the show.
