Mai Timms, representing Central Pioneer Leisure Marchers, was named queen, with Betty Leask, representing Probus 14, and Elma McGregor, representing Alexandra Clyde Lauder Union Parish, runners-up in the event's 15th year.
Mrs Timms (74) said she was "absolutely amazed" to be named queen over the six other women who entered.
"I was quite nervous but it was really nice meeting the other ladies."
Having never entered such an event before, Mrs Timms said she needed a lot of convincing to take part.
"My son said I should go in and have a good time.
"It's good for the community, which is what it's all about," she said.
A former blossom festival executive member, who had also helped build more than a few floats over the years, Mrs Timms hoped this year's festival would be successful.
"It would be absolutely wonderful to have the blossom festival back where it used to be."
The Senior Blossom Festival Queen contest was started to recognise and thank senior citizens who volunteered for community groups in Alexandra, many of whom, like Mrs Timms, contributed to the success of blossom festivals.
The senior queen and two runners-up will ride on a float in the festival procession on Saturday, attend the ecumenical church service at St John the Baptist Church on Sunday, and take part in the garden tour on Monday.
