The New Zealand Motor Caravan Association's (NZMCA) Clutha branch members Robyn Barkman and vice-chairman David Barkman celebrate the opening of the new NZMCA Park at Lowburn on Saturday.

The local caravanning community were in celebration mode as the association's Clutha Valley branch gathered for the opening of the park near Cromwell.

The Lowburn site has the capacity for about 70 motorhomes and dozens of residents congregated at the area along State Highway 6 for the opening.

Central Otago deputy mayor Neil Gillespie said the community would ultimately benefit from the flow of domestic holidaymakers.

"For some people this will become a regular place and they will make their own connections with people here. It's great."
