Two Cromwell grandparents will finally buy their dream home in the town after a $1 million Lotto win.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, did not realise they had won Saturday's jackpot until a grocery trip on Monday afternoon.
The man said his wife was picking up groceries at Cromwell New World, where they bought the ticket, and thought she might check it.
"The first we knew about the win was when 'Major Prize Winner' flashed up on the screen.
"She raced straight home, burst through the door, and flicked this little slip of paper towards me.
"As soon as I picked it up I saw all those zeros. So many zeros. I couldn't believe it; we were both bouncing off the walls.''
The couple had played Lotto since it began 28 years ago, he said.
"We always dreamed we'd win big, but never thought it would actually happen.''
Their first splurge was not a bank-breaker.
"We splashed out on our favourite takeaways for dinner that night. After all, who wants to cook when you've just become millionaires?''
They both knew exactly to what to spend a chunk of the winnings on.
"We've always dreamed of buying a home of our own and are so excited that we can finally begin hunting for our family home.
"It really is a dream come true. We couldn't be happier.''
The money would not change their day-to-day life too much but it would "definitely make things a lot easier'', the winner said.
"We're both still working and don't have any plans of stopping just yet.''
They had not told friends and family about the win, he said.
"We want to keep it nice and quiet.''
