The free family event was organised by Alexandra's six churches and attended by about 850 people. It involved more than 100 volunteers and many businesses also donated goods and services. The Rotary Club of Alexandra also provided funding.
Alexandra Elim Church senior pastors Aaron and Sarah More said light parties were a national and international initiative that were a "positive alternative" to trick-or-treating. Many are held on October 31, but the Alexandra event is always held on the nearest Saturday to Halloween.
Families were treated to free food, activities and entertainment at the Alexandra Light Party but one of the most popular attractions was the "spray tent", which kept children cool as temperatures reached 32degC.
Mr and Mrs More said the event was a "powerful statement" showing Alexandra's churches working together "in unity with one goal: to throw a free party for families in our community. Why complain of the darkness, when we can be the light?"
