Two Cromwell men are planning further action to get Lake Dunstan cleaned up after their unsuccessful efforts to draw attention to weed clogging.
The pair were concerned about the amount of lagarosiphon in the lake, saying it was ruining the experience for swimmers, boat users and tourists.
Andrew Burton and John ''RJ'' Wilson had hoped their story would result in further clearing of the weed, but said nothing had come from media coverage of the issue.
Boffa Miskell, the company which conducted lakeweed control for Land Information New Zealand (Linz), had undertaken work in December at ''high-value areas'' on the lake, mainly boat ramps and swimming areas.
Linz is responsible for the lake bed under the Land Act 1948.
Since their story was published in the Otago Daily Times last month, no further action had been taken, the men said.
They intended to keep campaigning.
''We have already gone public and now we have to chase Linz and ask `what are you doing'. We are sick of people ducking for cover,'' Mr Wilson said.
''The ball is in their court.''
There was no reason successes to control the weed in Lake Wanaka could not be replicated in Lake Dunstan, he said.
He and Mr Burton had already contacted Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean about the issue and hoped it would be taken up higher in the Government.
They had met Cromwell Community Board chairman and Contact Energy trading, development and geothermal resources project manager Neil Gillespie, who said legally, the power company had no responsibility for the lake bed.
Linz group manager Crown property John Hook said lake weed control was determined by the Otago Regional Council Pest Management Strategy.
It spent about $100,000 on lagarosiphon control annually. However, the figure was likely to increase to about $135,000 due to increased weed growth during spring, Mr Hook said.
Contact Energy environmental adviser Daniel Druce said it jointly funded the lagarosiphon management plan with Linz.
