The Central Otago District Council has voted to join other southern territorial authorities in becoming a member of Film Otago Southland.

Council business development manager Jonathan Gadd told the council this week it was important for Central Otago to co-operate with and promote film development.

Becoming a member would mean more opportunity for the council to encourage film-making in the district.

Mr Gadd said it was important film-makers had a seamless way of dealing with all the districts under one umbrella.

The cost to the council is one third of a share of $10,000.

Waitaki and Clutha share the remainder of the membership cost.
