The Auckland composer and musician is staying with family in Earnscleugh, near Alexandra, and says the aim of tonight's concert is twofold. ''It's a chance for kids and families around the area to have some fun and, at the same time, we'll raise some funds for a young family member who is having a tough time and battling cancer right now.''
The boy, Roan Brown (11), lives north of Sydney and is the nephew of Scoones and Helen Brown and Mike Olsen, of Earnscleugh.
''Roan's family are all from New Zealand and the Earnscleugh Hall is such a great venue, I thought it would be neat to do a gig here, with him in mind. The concert will be quite lively and I think there could be some dancing.''
Proceeds from the concert will go towards buying games and activities to keep Roan entertained during his time in hospital.
Scoones plays rock 'n' roll, country and western and songs from the 1960s and has just released an album of original children's songs. He works as a music therapist at the Ruakatauri Music Therapy Centre in Auckland, and performs gigs throughout the area.
