The Otago Racing Club hosted the races on a picture-perfect day. Club chief executive Hannah Catchpole said everybody was in good spirits for the 10-race card.
About 2000 tickets to the annual meeting had been presold and there had been a bumper walk-up crowd.
The meeting was part of the Christmas at the Races carnival, which will be held at meetings across the country over summer.
The crowd was estimated to be above 5000.
Miss Catchpole said the club had a good relationship with liquor licensing authorities in Central Otago and there had been no issues concerning the crowd and excessive drinking.
Many businesses used the meeting as their annual Christmas party.
Cromwell had been experiencing a heatwave over the past couple of weeks but the track was in a good condition and not too hard, having been regularly watered over that time.
