The first Central Otago building to be demolished because of its earthquake-prone status has now been levelled.
These photos were taken on (from left) April 30, May 5, May 7 and May 14. Demolition began a fortnight ago on the brick building in Tarbert St, Alexandra, which was almost 100 years old.
One of the owners, Pat Houlahan, said it would cost about the same to strengthen as to rebuild, so a new double-storey building would replace it.
The most recent occupant has been Alexandra Floor Pride but in the past the building has housed a grocery, a chemist's, a book shop and a menswear store, as well as other businesses.
