Patearoa will get an extra $4000 to assist its role as host town at this month’s Goldfields Cavalcade, thanks to the Maniototo Community Board.
The board has approved the funding to help provide the home town with general expenses throughout the event, which will take place from February 22-29.
Groups will embark on the journey at the start of the week, following one of 12 trails — five for horse riding, two for wagons, three for walking and two for cycling.
Starting points include Mt St Bathans Station in Oturehua, Grays Hills in the Mackenzie District, Pigroot Creek and Wedderburn, among others.
All trail users will meet in Patearoa on February 29, marking the end of their week-long journey.
Host town cavalcade committee member Belinda Colling said grants had helped support the town’s role and in turn, it would make a profit which would go back into the community.
She said among the town’s facilities that could potentially benefit were the town’s cycling and walking tracks, picnic areas, swimming pool, tennis courts and general beautification of the township.
