Upper Clutha bull rider Cade Cameron hopes he will one day meet up again with an American bull called Dash.
Cameron, 17, recently competed in the world junior bull riding championships at Mesquite, near Dallas, Texas.
He rode three bulls successfully before coming up against Dash and had his eye on one of the top spots.
All he had to do was ride Dash for 8 seconds.
But it was not to be.
He was thrown at 6.6sec and Dash retained his status as "unrideable".
Cameron finished sixth in a field of more than 60, but has fond memories of Dash who he describes as one of the best bulls he has ridden.
Like all the others in the event, Dash was bred for rodeos and has a long pedigree.
Cameron’s own rodeo pedigree goes back four generations and includes father Ryan who was a well-known bull rider.
Cameron has been living in a town way out west of Brisbane this year, practising riding bulls every week day and competing in rodeos every weekend.
A good bull, he says, is one that is fast and good at spinning.
"The more they change direction, the higher they kick and the faster they’re going; that’ll get you more points."
Cameron intends spending the summer riding bulls on the New Zealand rodeo circuit.
