The two brothers, along with their friend Shannon Hayes and younger club member Jordan McAnally, are practising hard for this year's national championships to be held at Christchurch at Easter weekend.
But the quartet will have a few extra days away as the pre-national race meet is the previous weekend.
Club president Steve Adair said Leon and Nathan had already won their age group trophies in the Canterbury championships and Nathan was No 3 in the South Island in the 17-29 age group. Leon is No 2 in the 16-year-old boys section.
The Alexandra BMX Club, which had about 20 members, was looking to expand. The sport was attracting people of all ages, with the youngest competitor nationally aged 4 and the oldest 67, Mr Adair said.
