Alexandra police are looking for a 1.87m man who allegedly assaulted a 34-year-old Alexandra woman on Saturday night and stole her handbag.
Constable Derek Ealson said the woman had met the man at the Fat Badger bar in Alexandra on Saturday evening and the pair had decided to walk home together later that night.
The man's picture was captured on a security camera at the Fat Badger earlier in the night.
On the corner of Ventry and Brandon Sts the man became agitated and knocked the woman to the ground and began attacking her.
She defended herself with her forearm and then managed to break free. When she said she was going home to get her brothers, the man ran off.
The woman received bruising to her forearm and a sore chest.
The woman's purse was found the next day in the public toilets not far from the area of the alleged assault.
Missing from the bag were her cellphone, a red Zippo lighter and her house key.
Const Ealson is making an appeal to anyone who might know who the man is or his whereabouts to contact the Alexandra police station on 03 440-2500.
