200 put food skills to test

Whipping up a pasta dish during the Salon Culinaire competition at Cromwell on Saturday is Ethan Wills (16), of Southland Boys' High School.

He was among 200 chefs, aspiring chefs and trainee chefs in the contest, organised by the Otago Polytechnic's Central Otago campus.

Some contestants created soup, beef, lamb, seafood and pasta dishes while others demonstrated their flair making desserts, or as a barista or cocktail maker.

Ethan's pasta section entry is an Asian-sauced pasta with chicken and coriander ball (pictured).
