Unfortunately, bad weather took its toll on the event, with heavy rain until 1.30pm on Sunday forcing the organisers to cancel the cross-country section of the event for four of the lover-level classes.
"With the wet conditions, the cancellations were both for safety concerns for the horses and riders, and out of concern for the crew.
We were starting to fear some of our volunteers out on the course would get hypothermia from standing in the rain for hours," Wakatipu Pony Club president Nancy Good said.
"The dressage and showjumping still went ahead for all classes, and for those who did not get to do cross-country, the results would be best of two events."
The team section, where each team was made up of five riders from different levels, was won by the Smaile Plumbing Team, which consisted mostly of local riders.
Spectator numbers were lower than in previous years because of the rain, but event patrons Trish and Malcolm Boote were happy with this year's event.
"This horse trial is growing into an event that can stand on its own without a line-up of famous international competitors, but still attract a good and competitive field," Mr Boote said.
At a pre-event competition and barbecue last Friday, the Wakatipu Pony Club raised $2000 for the charity Catwalk, which funds research on cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury.
