Two stamp albums put together by someone possibly more than 60 years ago are part of a police hunt of a different kind.

Dunedin police would like to track down the owner of the stamp albums, which were seized from a Dunedin address in 2007.

The albums have been held at the Dunedin Central Station since then and no-one has claimed them.

Police say the stamps include some first day covers relating to health camps and addressed to a couple who possibly lived in the Lower Hutt or Trentham areas.

The stamps date back to the 1940s.

While police did not want to release details about how the albums came into their possession, they said the people who had them at the time were "unlikely to be collectors".

The albums may be of sentimental value to someone, if not financial value, and the police would like to reunite the albums with their owner if possible, Snr Sgt Brown said.
