A smoking ember from last week's major fire in Roxburgh resulted in a call-out for the Roxburgh Fire Brigade on Saturday.
Fire chief David Rooney said the call was received on Saturday afternoon and the hot spot was quickly doused by the fire crew.
Fire razed a house and burnt 40ha of land on the hill behind Roxburgh on January 1, fanned by northwest winds blowing up to 100kmh.
Mr Rooney said heavy showers during the weekend would lower the chance of other hot spots reigniting.
Shortly after that call on Saturday, fire crews were sent to the Roxburgh racecourse, where rubbish was burning in a pit.
They spent about half an hour making sure the fire was extinguished.
Mr Rooney reminded residents that a total fire ban was still in force.
