Commissioners (from left) Heather McConachy and Alex Sutherland, deputy commissioner Ken Fletcher, and judge Jon Jackson drove over Old Dunstan Rd from Clarks Junction at midday.
The four walked around parts of the range, overlooking areas of snow-tussock-covered land on which Project Hayes' 176 turbines would be situated if consent was granted.
The visit came after the panel spent two weeks in Cromwell for the wind farm's appeal hearing.
Appellants and other active parties have until July 28 to prepare their arguments on issues of construction before the hearing resumes in Cromwell for two weeks.
