One hundred and sixteen year 12 physics pupils from Otago Boys High School, Otago Girls High School and St Hildas Collegiate School took part in the annual lesson on the physics of flight yesterday, which is now in its 34th year.
Otago Boys physics teacher Bill Trewern said the lessons helped increase interest in the subject.
"It is certainly a drawcard."
On Monday, pupils were taught about flight, including the mechanics of a plane, how it flew, and gravity, followed by a practical lesson yesterday.
Joining a flight instructor for a 30-minute flight over Dunedin from the Taieri Aerodrome, pupils were able to experience, first-hand, aspects of their lessons, Mr Trewern said.
South Otago High School year 12 pupils will take part in the flying lessons on Friday.
