The centenary of Knox College was celebrated in Dunedin yesterday by some of the 6200 people who did a little of their growing up there.

Up to 500 attended tours, dinners, lunches, banquets and balls where they reminisced about their time at a college described as a "jewel in the crown" of both the University of Otago and the Presbyterian Church.

The college, built to house trainees for the church, now each year houses 212 students of various religions and persuasions.

Presbyterian Moderator the Rt Rev Dr Graham Redding reflected on the college motto "gratia et veritasi", or grace and truth, which he considered as much a part of the heritage of the college as its historic buildings.
