A Tahuna Intermediate children's literary team was fifth equal in the country at the annual Kids' Lit Quiz in Auckland last week.
The team, Grace Cook, James Richardson, Josephine Devereux and Samuel Wallis, won the Otago final in March and competed against 14 other regional teams in the national final.
Tahuna tied for fifth with Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, the team which won the New Zealand final last year, quiz master Wayne Mills said.
"It was the best result ever by an Otago team."
The quiz aimed to promote recreational reading for young people.
The winning team was Belmont Intermediate, Auckland.
