Inspired by Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth, a New Zealand director set out to find the country's "earth whisperers".
Kathleen Gallagher's fifth film, Earth Whisperers/Papatuanuku, is a feature documentary about 10 New Zealanders who are doing their bit to heal the environment.
"When I saw Al Gore's film, I figured there were people in New Zealand familiar with the idea that climate change was upon us. I wanted to find those people who had taken action in their own lives," she said.
Included in the 10 are two Otago men, botanist and guardian of Lake Manapouri Prof Alan Mark, of Dunedin, and organic farmer Jim O'Gorman, of Kakanui.
The group's actions ranged from saving heritage seeds, regenerating forests and harvesting and protecting wild herbs, to riding a bicycle.
"These people are a delightful and powerful example. Even a person living in the centre of a city can protect and enjoy native forest, ride a bike, or grow a garden."
The film will premiere in Dunedin on Monday at 3pm at Metro Cinema.
