A whopping 84.8% of all rubbish was recycled during last month's Michael Hill New Zealand Golf open at Queenstown.
TA Golf events and production manager Darren Burgess said the aim was to have 60% of total waste recycled, with the remainder going to landfill.
"To say this result has drastically exceeded the events expectations is an understatement.
"Wanaka Wastebusters was the organisation responsible for this amazing outcome that would have the Michael Hill New Zealand Open rate as one of the top recycling achievements in NZ Major Event accomplishments.
"Another interesting angle on the whole recycling process is that 1545kg of food waste material was composted, thus putting a little of the open back to the environment," he said.
In total, 1980kg of rubbish, 1210kg of plastic bottles, 1664kg of cardboard, 640kg of paper, 1545kg of food and 6065kg of glass was recorded as waste.
Of that 11,124kg was recycled with 1980kg remaining as waste.
