Dunstan High School claimed a 52-38 win over St. Kevin's College in their Southern Wide Real Esate 1st XV competition match today.
Coach Tom Blaikie said that the Dunstan gameplan was always to play a fast, wide game and run the big St. Kevin's forward pack off their feet. It worked too, he remarked, as St. Kevin's struggled to keep up and the Dunstan backline ran in all of their tries. He also praised the forward pack, which he said worked hard all game to get the backs quality ball.
St. Kevin's did make use of their bigger players though, scoring their tries through their big forwards running over the top of the Dunstan defenders close to the line.
In other results South Otago High School claimed a good win over Waitaki Boys' High School 45-31, while the other top three team, John McGlashan College, were convincing in beating Kavanagh College 67-5.
Otago Boys' High School 2nd XV beat Taieri College 69-6, while King's High School were too good for Mt. Aspiring, running out 53-17 winners.
