While brother Tom Jackson was playing for Wellington in the Oceania Champions League, young Lewis tore the heart out of Dunedin Technical with three goals in 14 minutes at Tahuna Park, where Caversham won 3-1.
Specialist coaching certainly pays off. Caversham had enlisted former All Whites striker Andy Deeley for a session with Jackson, and Caversham coach Tim Horner paid tribute to Deeley's skills and advice.
''Andy was a lethal finisher with the All Whites,'' Horner said.
''He scored in every international game he played in, and finished his career with a hat trick against Western Samoa in 1987, so he knows a bit about scoring goals.''
Deeley's prolific scoring must have rubbed off on Jackson, who was first to the ball as a Tore Waechter shot rebounded off Technical's woodwork in the 18th minute.
The slender striker darted forward and slid his second goal through the legs of advancing keeper Tom Batty, and finally, he showed cool technique to score his second goal in as many minutes with a lob from a 32nd minute Sam Collier cross.
Technical clawed back as an error by keeper Daryl Putt made the score 3-1 at halftime, but the veteran keeper made amends when he denied Aaron Burgess in a one on one, diving bravely in at the striker's feet in the second half.
Predictably, Horner praised Jackson's hat trick and general play, but also had good words for another youngster, Jared Grove, who had an influential match in midfield.
Technical player coach Burgess paid tribute to Caversham's ''outstanding 10 minutes, when Jackson got his hat trick, punishing our defence for sloppy square play.''
Mosgiel coach Andrew Brook could also celebrate a strong 6 0 win over Northern at Forrester Park, in which his son Cody hit a hat trick, after the Magpies' resistance had kept the score to 1 0 at the break.
Second half substitutes Regan Coldicott and Michael Bu finally broke Northern's resistance, and goals flowed from Brook, Ali (two) and Isaac Snell.
''Our man of the match was Jessie Wright, who showed great energy and whipped in lots of quality crosses,'' Andrew Brook said.
Northern battled enthusiastically, but now has a grim record of one goal scored and 24 conceded in four FPL matches this season.
Goals were scarce at Sunnyvale, where Roslyn Wakari scored a 1 0 win over Green Island, despite being reduced to 10 men. Referee Francois Cuccurillo red carded former Kiev professional Patrick Ebanda after a foul tackle.
Roslyn coach Colin Thom had nothing but plaudits for his team's battling effort and the fine goal scored by Rupert Mark, which earned third place in the FPL table behind leaders Mosgiel and Caversham.
