KEYBOARD

Logitech’s MX Keys Mini ($239.95) is of a similar size to a laptop keyboard.

It has low-profile keys that aren’t too "clicky", it is tenkeyless (doesn’t have a keypad) and is light and easy to carry around.

It is solidly built and, at 29.5cm long, it fits easily into your laptop bag, making it ideal for using on the move, but not really suitable for touch typists embarking on a day of typing.

If you intend using this in a dimly lit area then it has illumination behind the keys, but otherwise this novelty wastes battery power.

The keyboard has some useful shortcuts built into the function keys such as emojis (F7) and microphone mute (F9).

The dictation (F9), i.e. speech to text function, was especially handy.

MOUSE

Billed as quiet, the MX Anywhere 3S ($79.99) mouse was definitely quieter than a standard Logitech mouse, and certainly "less annoying".

It was much the same as other high-quality mice we have tested.

It was also billed as having a track-on-glass sensor.

This was very good.

It could easily glide around on a smooth desktop without a mouse pad, while keeping good tracking on the screen.

The scroll wheel is set to automatically shift from line-by-line scrolling to free spinning when you scroll faster, but can be adjusted in further settings.

It also has an 8K DPI sensor which may be useful for gaming, or anyone needing to move the cursor faster and more accurately with hi-res displays, but was not tested here.

CONNECTION

Both the mouse and keyboard easily connect via Bluetooth.

No batteries are required, but you have to remember to charge them with a USB-C cable.

The big advantage with both the mini keyboard and the mouse is that they can be set up to connect to three devices.

You can switch between the three with a push of a key (F1, F2 or F3) on the keyboard, or a switch at the bottom of the mouse. Therefore you can easily have your work laptop, tablet, and home computer all set up if desired.

OPTIONS + SOFTWARE

The main advantage of both the mini keyboard and mouse is they both work in conjunction with the Options+ driver software, meaning the keys and buttons can be programmed for specific functions.

For example, on the mouse, you can adjust the feel of the scroll wheel from subtle to strong feedback. Or you can change what the buttons do.

For example, we made the centre button open the calculator.

SURPRISINGLY ADAPTABLE

Another advantage is being able to connect to your television.

For example, searching for the movie The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain, on a smart TV remote may seem like an impossible chore, but connecting this mini Bluetooth keyboard to the TV made the task so much easier.

VERDICT

If you are on the move a lot and want to be able to share your mouse and keyboard with up to three different devices then Logitech’s MX Keys Mini and MX Anywhere 3S mouse may be what you are looking for.

The ability to customise the settings is what makes the price understandable.
