Excitement is building as Waimate Theatre Company prepares to bring The Sound of Music to life.

This beloved classic, filled with iconic songs and a heartwarming story, is set to delight audiences across two weekends from late May to early June.

Auditions took place over the weekend, drawing a fantastic turnout of performers eager to be part of this timeless musical.

From seasoned theatre veterans to fresh faces, the creative team was thrilled with the talent and enthusiasm in the audition room.

Director Helen Horsnell, vocal director Vanessa Morgan, band leader Claire Luckman, and choreographer Shelley Wilson now face the exciting challenge of assembling the perfect cast.

One final piece of the puzzle remains — a few more men are needed to complete the cast.

While many roles have been filled, opportunities are still available for male performers in both lead and ensemble roles.

Non-singing parts are also available, making this a great chance to get involved in theatre.

Whether you may be stepping on to the stage for the first time or returning after a break, this is a unique opportunity to be part of a production that has captivated audiences for generations.

The Sound of Music is one of the most cherished musicals of all time, telling the inspiring true story of Maria, a spirited young governess who transforms the lives of the seven von Trapp children through music and love.

Set against the backdrop of pre-World War 2 Austria, the show features unforgettable songs like Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, and Climb Ev’ry Mountain. Its timeless themes of family, resilience, and hope continue to resonate with audiences.

Rehearsals will begin soon, but there is still time to get involved, and male performers interested in joining the production should reach out as soon as possible.

Do not miss the chance to be part of this incredible production and bring a true musical classic to life!
