Police are investigating the death of a man following an incident outside Dunedin Hospital last week.
The man died yesterday morning, a police spokesman said.
Officers were called to the hospital about 8.50pm last Thursday following a reported altercation involving a member of the public outside the hospital.
A postmortem would be carried out in the coming days, the spokesman said.
Police believed the death could have been caused by a medical event.
"As the investigation is ongoing, and with cause of death yet to be determined, police are unable to comment further," he said.
Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora also said police were investigating, but did not answer questions about the circumstances of the incident, including any possible staff involvement or the consequences of such.
