Brazier, who has just turned 24, has had an operation on her hip and is facing a break off the field of between three to six months.
The inside back and contracted New Zealand Rugby Union sevens player said she had been hit by a nagging groin injury since the middle of this year.
''After the first Black Ferns test in July it was starting to hurt. Then I played the next two and came back here to play in the club final and it was still hurting. I tried to tape it up to give it some support,'' she said.
After getting medical advice, it was found the problem was not in her groin but was more to do with her right hip. Her best option was to have an operation rather than rest the injury.
Some bone was shaved off her hip and the labrum in her hip re-attached to her pelvis. She now has a soft screw placed in her hip.
Her doctors had advised her the road back to full fitness would take three to six months.
She is not allowed to run for the first four weeks so, since the operation earlier this month, she has been swimming and working out in the gym to maintain fitness.
She said the injury had come about from all the kicking she had done over the past year and it should have no long-term effect on her career.
It was the longest time she had ever been off the field but she was committed to not rushing back.
''I just want to make sure I do everything right and not come back too early.
''The first game of the World Cup next year is August 1 and that is something I want to be there for.''
Brazier had been one of the first women signed by the NZRU to a professional sevens contract and said it was great to be paid for something she loved. She was also likely to look for part-time work to supplement her income.
She is likely to miss sevens tournaments in Atlanta and Sao Paulo in February but is targeting the tournament in Guangzhou in China, in early April, as a return to the sevens action.
Brazier played first five-eighth for the Black Ferns last year in their clean sweep of the English side in New Zealand and is a key player for the national team.
She was a member of the title-winning 2010 national team.
