About 80 people joined Ms Gray at the table for the ticketed event, where they enjoyed a lunch with a main of Otago lamb served Greek-style in parchment paper accompanied by seasonal vegetables and a dessert selection featuring Central Otago summer stonefruit.
"This is something unique for my birthday, and it’s absolutely divine.
"I’m looking forward to my main," Ms Gray said.
While waiting for the main meal to be served, diners snacked on taste boards of different Farmers’ Market delights.
"It’s a really special way to spend the day."
To mark 20 years of the market the special lunch was put on by the Otago Farmers’ Market Trust to showcase the variety and quality of local produce.
Event manager Nicola McConnell said the trust would love to see the Long Lunch become an annual event.
"I mean the railway station and the Farmers’ Market are both so iconic to Dunedin, it’s so good to bring those two Dunedin icons together," Ms McConnell said.
Otago Farmers Market Trust chairwoman Sharyn Crawford said the Long Lunch was an opportunity to gather and share the variety and array of foods from the Otago region.
