Chief executive settling in

The Central South Island Fish & Game Council has appointed a new chief executive.

Steve McKnight, who took over the role on Monday, most recently worked at the Timaru District Council and his previous experience included working in food manufacturing with McCain Foods and Fonterra, both in New Zealand and overseas, a statement from Fish & Game said.

"I look forward to working together with councillors and staff to manage, maintain and enhance our region’s sports fish and game bird resources sustainably in the interests of anglers and hunters," Mr McKnight said.

He grew up in the Nelson/Marlborough region and had a keen interest in all types of hunting, fishing and outdoor activities and was looking forward to the outdoor opportunities the Central South Island region had to offer.

Mr McKnight replaced Jay Graybill who held the position since the organisation came into being in 1991.

The council also announced Linn Koevoet as the new chairman.

Glenavy-based Mr Koevoet was on the council since December 2009 and was appointed chairman at its meeting in February.

Fish & Game's Central South Island region extends from the south bank of the Rakaia River in the north, to Moeraki in the south.
