Emergency services were called to the Clutha River after two jet boats collided near Albert Town yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said police were advised that two jet boats had collided near the Albert Town bridge about 2.20pm.

One person had a serious back injury and was stranded on an island in the river with about six others from the boats.

A helicopter was called to retrieve them. Maritime New Zealand was also advised, the spokeswoman said.
