Caversham (29 points) and Green Island (28) meet in the game of the round at Sunnyvale today.
Island coach Craig Doble has taken the reins of the young team since Malcolm Fleming transferred to Perth, in Australia, to take up a coaching position.
While the club has lost the services of rising star Joel Stevens, who has gone to Wellington, the young team has stuck to its guns and attempted to maintain possession and pass the ball into the attacking zone, no matter the scoreline.
Fresh off a good away victory over Old Boys, Green Island will be keen prove a point to its more experienced opponent.
Caversham will be missing Bradley Scott (groin injury), while Jude Fitzpatrick will have a fitness test this morning to see if he is recovered from a corked thigh.
League leader Dunedin Technical will host ninth-placed Invercargill side Old Boys at Tahuna Park.
Technical assistant coach Tony Martin is hoping for an improved Tahuna playing surface.
''Our last match at Tahuna wasn't a good experience. We were the third game on the pitch that day, and players from both teams struggled to control and pass the ball accurately on a bumpy pitch.''
Technical will be without injured striker Richard Smith, due to a calf injury, and midfielder Sam Enright, who has other commitments.
Second-placed Roslyn-Wakari will host Queenstown Rovers at Ellis Park.
Rovers will be buoyed by a solid win over Grants Braes but will miss injured striker Carlos Hermann.
Roslyn will miss central defender James Watson, who is suspended, having accumulated seven yellow cards in the league.
A depleted University team will host local rival Northern at the Caledonian Ground. The students may struggle with the absence of in-form striker Tane Gent, who is overseas, and Tom Morley, Todd Marwick and Henry Flood, all of whom are injured.
Northern, hoping to bounce back to winning form after suffering a 4-0 loss to Roslyn-Wakari, will be without Cam Kerr and Emmet MacLaurin.
In the final game of the round, a full-strength Grants Braes team travels out to Memorial Park to take on seventh-placed Mosgiel.
Organisers of the annual Green Island seven-a-side junior football tournament are hoping it is third time lucky tomorrow.
The tournament was postponed twice because of terrible weather earlier this year. All going well, it will be played at Sunnyvale tomorrow. August 18 is the final reserve day.
Nearly 140 teams, from as far afield as Balclutha and Wanaka, will play 257 games over 23 fields.
