Bellamy got the monkey off his back by finally winning the Otago matchplay at Balmacewen.
The Templeton-based but Port Chalmers-registered golfer played consistent golf to beat Parker Aluesi (St Clair) 2 and 1 in damp conditions in the final.
"I’m glad to finally get one over the line," Bellamy said last night.
"I’ve made four semifinals in a row, and lost two finals, but I finally got it done.
"It’s awesome — just a real good weight off my shoulders after being in the mix for the past four years."
Bellamy (28), who was beaten by Phil Bungard in last year’s final, was 1-up at the turn.
He made a neat birdie putt on the 10th to go 2-up, before both golfers birdied the 11th from about 30 feet.
Bellamy made bogey on 12 to drop a hole but got it back when Aluesi hit into a hazard on 14, and Bellamy clinched victory with par on 17.
"I just played really solid, and didn’t really make any mistakes this afternoon," he said.
"It was difficult in the morning, because it was pretty wet."
His caddie was on hand for some useful advice.
Bellamy’s father, Richard, has been on the clubs for the past four years, and the pair had a special moment when victory was sealed.
"To have him on the bag means quite a bit."
Bellamy beat Southland No 1 Matt Tautari 1-up in the rain-affected semifinals, and Aluesi beat Ben Patston (Otago) 2-up.
In the women’s final, Sumin Kang was too strong for Abby Crawford, winning 7 and 6.
