A white Mazda Familia sedan and a green Honda car collided at the Stuart St and Moray Pl intersection about 8.30pm.
The Mazda driver said after the collision spun his car across the intersection he put his foot on the brake and the automatic transmission of his car ''went into reverse'' and the car rapidly travelled backwards towards the gallery.
''I had my foot on the brake and it just kept on going backwards.''
When the car smashed through the gallery door the store alarm sounded.
Gallery De Novo owner Richelle Byers said the security company called her.
She owned the business and leased the building. She had insurance and hoped to have the store open for business today, she said.
No-one was injured but one person was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
A policeman on the scene said alcohol had not been a factor in the collision.
